African Art on the World Stage
The Tate Modern's iconic Turbine Hall has been transformed by a massive steel sculpture created by a Nigerian artist, in one of the most ambitious installations the gallery has ever hosted.
The work, spanning 30 meters in length, is constructed entirely from recycled metal collected from markets and workshops across Lagos. It explores themes of urbanization, resilience, and transformation.
Critical Response
Art critics have unanimously praised the installation, with many calling it the most powerful Turbine Hall commission in years. The work has drawn record visitor numbers since its unveiling.
The commission cements the growing recognition of contemporary African art in the global art world and has inspired conversations about sustainability and creative reuse.
